Southern Rhythms of Two Continents — Sbor českých bratří, Mladá Boleslav

Markéta Laštovičková (accordion) and Jaroslav Svěcený (violin) present a programme where Argentine music by Ástor Piazzolla - creator of the "tango nuevo" style - intertwines with Spanish compositions by Gorky Hermosa and French works by Richard Galliano. Both performers also include their own compositions in this repertoire.

About the venue: Sbor českých bratří

The Sbor českých bratří is a Renaissance pseudo-basilica built between 1544 and 1554 by Italian architect Matteo Borgorelli for the local Bohemian Brethren congregation. It ranks among the oldest buildings of this type outside Italy and reflects the era when Mladá Boleslav was a centre of the Brethren's Reformation. Today the building serves as an exhibition and concert hall with exceptional acoustics; it closes during the winter months for climate reasons.

Violinist Jaroslav Svěcený has been performing since the age of five and has taken his instrument to 62 countries over a forty-year professional career. Alongside the classical repertoire, he is known for cross-genre projects such as Vivaldianno and Cigánski diabli, where he blends classical music with rock, folk and tango.
