Brünnwerk & Guests: Concert for the New Album 'Something Now and Everything Later'
Theatre Husa na Provázku, Brno
Brno avant-garde vocal ensemble - the ars poetica nova of Petr Rybíz Toman accompanied by a jazz-improvisational ensemble under the direction of Pavel Zlámal.
Toman's vocal delivery combines singing, rap, stylized recitation, and whisper. His texts are playful and absurd, yet carry an unexpected inner gravity.
The ensemble includes Kristián Kuruc, a recent Anděl Prize winner, Martin Srpka-Konvička, winner of composition competitions, and Jaroslav Šťastný, professor of composition at JAMU. Conductor Zlámal leads the group both compositionally and through conducting, walking the line between jazz and pop elegance with excursions beyond established forms and performative surprises - the result is a sound that defies easy parallel or genre classification. It might distantly recall a fusion of New York's Don Byron with lyricist Sadiq, or in the Czech context, Illustratosféra sliced through by Psí vojáci.
Brünnwerk released their debut CD in 2018 on Ears & Wind records. Their second album "Something Now and Everything Later" came out on August 8, 2025. Pavel Zlámal and Brünnwerk are also the composers of music for the Husa na provázku theatre production "Rules of the Bincárna" (since 2019).
