Pirate Radio
Střelecký Ostrov, Litoměřice
Director: Richard Curtis | United Kingdom, Germany, France, 2009, 130 min
In 1966, the BBC broadcast popular music for only half an hour a day. This led to the creation of pirate radio stations broadcasting non-stop from ships anchored in the North Sea - beyond the reach of British law. The government's biggest thorn in its side was Radio Rock.
We meet its crew through the eyes of teenager Carl, who is sent by his mother to his godfather Quentin for re-education after being expelled from school. Quentin is the head of the pirate radio station. Carl faces a life lesson led by Dave, an American music fanatic and radio presenter, a full-time playboy, and other broadcasters who are anything but normal.
All of Britain loves them - except for Minister Dormandy, responsible for radio broadcasting, who is willing to do anything to silence them.
