Silence Above 8000: Manaslu Expedition
Bio Oko, Prague · 200 Kč · ≈ 8 €
A film evening featuring a discussion with former neurosurgeon Mária Hundža Stratilovová and documentary filmmaker Michal Gálik. The programme includes the premiere of the new documentary "Silence Above 8000", dedicated to an expedition on Manaslu (8163 m), the world's eighth highest mountain.
"Silence Above 8000" (26 min) - After burnout and a serious knee injury, Mária Hundža Stratilovová leaves her former life behind and sets out to climb Manaslu in the Himalayas. Director Michal Gálik captures not only the expedition itself, but also the personal transformation of the main protagonist, her search for a new life path, and the impact of extreme decisions on her relationships. The film raises questions: what drives a person to voluntarily risk their own life, and can one live the same way after returning from the summit?
Mária Hundža Stratilovová is an ultramarathon runner and physician. After a serious knee injury, Manaslu became her first eight-thousander.
Michal Gálik is a documentary filmmaker who has travelled to more than 70 countries with his camera. His work focuses primarily on global environmental themes and expedition films from remote locations - from the Congo rainforest to the snowy Himalayas.
