Exhibition Marking 1050 Years Since the First Written Record of Starý Plzenec

Město Starý Plzenec, Starý Plzenec

This exhibition celebrates the 1050th anniversary of the first written mention of Starý Plzenec (from 976) and runs in two phases: January 14 – June 10, 2026, and September 16, 2026 – January 13, 2027. The main exhibition is housed in the Staroplzenec Gallery (Smetanova 932) and guides visitors through key moments in the city's history using large-format photographs, historical artifacts, a model of Radyně Castle, a model of the Church of St. Peter and Paul, and period postcards. The exhibition also features an interactive section for children at the Tourist Services Centre below Radyně Castle, where young visitors can playfully experience medieval life—trying on princess dresses or knight armor, playing board games, sampling medieval feasts, or building their own medieval castle. The interactive section is open year-round in 2026 (April–October daily 9:00–18:00, November–March daily 9:00–16:00). The exhibition is part of year-long celebrations of 1050 years of Starý Plzenec, which also include a lecture series "A Guide to the History of Starý Plzenec" and other events.
