Town of Starý Plzenec

Starý Plzenec

About the venue

Starý Plzenec lies about 9 km southeast of Plzeň in the Úslava river valley. Its first written mention dates to 976, when the Přemyslid stronghold here served as the administrative centre of western Bohemia - a role it lost after 1295, when Wenceslaus II founded the new city of Plzeň nearby. Today the town is best known for the sparkling wine producer Bohemia Sekt, based in a former brewery, and for the 14th-century ruins of Radyně Castle above the town. A 9 km circular nature trail links the main points of interest.
