Lawyer Pavel Chikov in Prague: "Why International Law Doesn't Work"

Pavel Chikov (born 1978) is a Russian lawyer, human rights defender, and director of the International Human Rights Group Agora. He studied international law at Kazan State University and earned his doctorate in military sanctions in international law in 2003. In 2023, he was registered as a foreign agent by the Russian Ministry of Justice. He is a member of the Russian Association of International Law and a contributor to media outlets including Forbes Russia, RBK, and Novaja Gazeta.
The lecture takes place in Russian at the industrial space Beseder Gallery in Prague 9 (near O2 Arena). Chikov will guide the audience through the history of international law from the first treaties to contemporary conflicts and attempt to answer the questions: Can the UN truly stop a war? Why do international courts lack real enforcement power? And what happens when powerful states ignore the rules? Beseder Gallery is fully wheelchair accessible.
