Science Journalist Asja Kazanceva in Prague: "More Dopamine to the God of Dopamine!"

Beseder Gallery, Prague

from 35 €

Asja Kazanceva is a science journalist, science communicator, laureate of the "Prosvetitel" (Enlightener) award, and neurobiology graduate (from the Faculty of Biology at Saint Petersburg State University, with master's degrees in cognitive sciences from the Higher School of Economics and molecular neurobiology from the University of Bristol). She is the author of bestselling books about the brain and human behaviour.

This time, Asja will explain what the brain's trendiest molecule — dopamine — actually does. It seems there are two dopamines today. One was discovered back in 1910, forgotten for half a century, and then rediscovered as a substance crucial for regulating movement. Based on this research, a cure for Parkinson's disease was found, and Arvid Carlsson received the Nobel Prize for it in 2000. The second dopamine is the star of social media, motivational literature, and the wellness industry: supposedly it is behind everything — addictions, procrastination, love, and success.

Asja Kazanceva will explain what is true, what is myth, and why dopamine is such a fascinating topic at the intersection of science and popular culture. The lecture is held in Russian. Books by Asja Kazanceva will be available for purchase and signing at the event. Venue: Beseder Gallery, Prague 9 — a unique industrial barrier-free space near the O2 Arena and Galerie Harfa shopping centre, connected to the Kolčavka restaurant and mini-brewery.
