JAMU Ensemble - Motown & More // Ponava

The JAMU ensemble under the direction of Jiří Levíček presents a programme dedicated to Motown and rhythm & blues music. The concert will feature songs by artists such as Martha Reeves, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Etta James and Aretha Franklin.

Motown was born in the 1960s in Detroit, where Berry Gordy founded the record label of the same name and in the Hitsville studio captured a generation of musicians writing about love, brotherhood and faith in a better tomorrow. Both genres — Motown and free jazz — stem from the common roots of African-American blues and gospel.
