A lecture by Jan Hrdina on Cinematic Scotland combined with the launch of his book WHEN THE ROMAN EAGLE RULED THE WORLD.

Jan Hrdina studied history and classical archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy, Masaryk University in Brno, and history at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. Since 2001, he has been writing and publishing, working as an editor and photographer. He has long been devoted to popularizing history and collaborates with the magazine Živá historie and other titles from the 100+1 magazine family. As an expert consultant, he contributed to the preparation of exhibitions in Prague heritage sites and participated in film and documentary projects.

He specializes in the history of Britain (particularly Scotland), antiquity, and early medieval history. He is the author of the novel The Secret of Scottish Blood, the book Scotland: Land of Ancient Secrets (which inspired a series of the same name on Czech Radio), a guide to Scotland following the footsteps of the series The Foreigner, and the title Bohemians: The First Thousand Years of Czech History. He translated MacBeth – The Great King of Scotland from English. His latest book When the Roman Eagle Ruled the World explores the history of the Roman Empire. In 2009, he participated in the Czech expedition Brazilia Encantada, searching for the remains of an advanced indigenous civilization.
