Joan of Arc

How dare you? Joan said when she heard the voices, and set out without hesitation into a bloody battle.

A collectively created full-company production by HaDivadlo inspired by the legend of Joan of Arc. The story follows the collective dream of medieval people about a saviour who can stop the Hundred Years' War — and at the same time asks what people believe in today. Joan must endure difficult trials to convince both nobility and soldiers of her abilities. At every step she is accompanied by uncompromising clashes with authority and power machinations.

Joan relies on faith, but who are the voices that speak to her? Her trance states arouse distrust in some and hope in others. But what does Joan believe in? In God? And what if God is silent? The Inquisition speaks clearly: This girl is on fire!

The production questions gender norms and raises questions about activism, selfishness and radical conviction. Can one woman change the world — and should she do it alone? Joan's story speaks of female glory, distrust of youth and how to face opposition that does not understand you.
