GEISSLERS HOFCOMOEDIANTEN: Anger

A stage corrida from the cycle Virtues and Vices. Nobody cares what you feel. Nobody cares what you want. Nobody cares what bothers you. And inside, a scream grows. I have the right to feel anger! To destroy. To crush. To tear apart. To kill. To kill that feeling? To hate? To hate others? Myself? Why? Somewhere in the middle of the labyrinth lurks a raging bull. Come look it in the eye.

An original stage statement by Petr Šmída (co-author of text, composer, sole performer) - the first part of a cycle inspired by the Baroque sculptures of Virtues and Vices by the renowned Matyas Bernard Braun in Kuks. The production explores anger primarily through personal experience. An emotion traditionally rejected and condemned by society is presented as an inseparable part of each of us. Anger is more than a negative emotion. It is a tool that must be learned, understood and used so it stops causing harm and can help instead.

The creators draw on numerous expert materials on emotions and anger (courses by psychologist Radka Schillerová, mentorship by Tereza Kantu Mužíková, publications and portal Theory of Types by psychologist Šárka Míková, podcast Counting to Three by psychologist Vlaďka Bartáková, works by Robert Bly, Jaak Panksepp, Joseph LeDoux, António Damásio, Lisa Feldman Barrett and Gabor Maté). The production aims to create a space where young people can view anger not as a forbidden or dangerous emotion, but as a significant source of self-knowledge and constructive energy, through personal experience, theatrical imagery and subsequent reflection.
