DEKKA KICK-OFF: Distortion
The curated evening "Distortion" is the work of the 2nd season of the DEKKA KICK-OFF project — an experimental initiative organized by DEKKADANCERS in collaboration with ARCHA+ and Jatka78 theatre. A selected group of young talents aged 18–28 has been given the space to create their own performance. The evening comprises three choreographies exploring how distorted reality is and how much of what surrounds us is invented.
The first part "PARALLAX" (choreography by Alice Silná) draws from the motif of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven". Reality transforms depending on who is watching — during the performance, photographs are created in real time, entering the action as its displaced, fragmented images. Perspectives assemble and disassemble simultaneously, along with the notion of a single truth.
The second part "Nun-bit" (choreography by Eliška Nevoralová) focuses on the power of the human gaze as the most sincere form of communication. An unnamed crowd appears on stage, each member carrying their own complex story. The choreography works with emotions that can be expressed through a look — words are not enough for them.
The third part "Over the Rainbow" (choreography by İpek Özgen) explores how the meaning of repeated gestures can transform over time. From everyday routine anchored in muscle memory emerges a shared movement vocabulary — through sudden transformations, interruptions, and tense moments, familiar gestures are disrupted, layered upon each other, and lose their original purpose.
