The Selva (PT) // Ponava

The Selva is a Portuguese trio composed of Ricardo Jacinto (cello and electronics), Gonçalo Almeida (double bass and electronics) and Pedro Oliveira (drums and electronics). The group operates at the intersection of improvised music, electroacoustics and minimalism, exploring the tension between the expressive power of acoustic instruments and their electronic manipulation.

The trio was founded in 2016 (originally with Nuno Morão on drums) and has released four albums: The Selva (2017), Canícula Rosa (2019), Barbatrama (2021, in collaboration with Machinefabriek) and Camarão-Girafa (2023). In early 2025, drummer, percussionist and sound explorer Pedro Oliveira from Barcelona joined the ensemble, known for his work with Peixe-Avião, Clã, Rui Reininho and his solo project Krake, replacing Nuno Morão. His pronounced electroacoustic and electronic dimension has pushed The Selva into new territories.
