Vinohrady Film: Uranium Legends

Společenský sál Pálava, Brno

from 120 Kč · ≈ 4.9 €

The discovery of one of Czechoslovakia's largest uranium deposits in the 1960s triggered a new uranium rush, transforming northern Bohemia into a domestic Klondike. Thousands arrived seeking money, work, and a new identity — the miner became a hero, uranium a symbol of "peace," while all extraction flowed to the Soviet Union.

New settlements and mines emerged, the region transformed. Yet beneath the surface, a steep price was paid: radiation risk, extreme working conditions, and widespread ecological damage.

As nuclear threats resurge, the story of Czech uranium gains chilling relevance.
