May Festival

The May Festivities take place on Svobody Square in Brno from Tuesday, May 12 to Sunday, May 17, 2026, as part of the Festivities Brno series organized by the Brno-střed municipal district. Entry is free. This year's edition features a richer programme and more prominent decoration than previous years, including a new heart-shaped light installation.

Each day from 4:00 PM, musical ensembles perform: Tuesday – Lidová hudba Za Oponou and Šany DUO, Wednesday – Cimbálová muzika Dvojtón and CCA Gang, Thursday – Cimbálová muzika Michala Mikulky and Lee banda, Friday – Mladé Valašsko from Folklorika and Anna Habancová with Tomáš Janoška, Saturday – Chasa from Těšany and Cimbálová muzika Pazúr. On weekdays at 8:00 PM, open-air summer cinema features the films Rebels (2001), Singin' in the Rain (1952), Grease (1978), and Dirty Dancing (1987).

On Saturday, May 16 from 2:00 PM, a fashion show dedicated to Strážnice blue-print textiles takes place with performances by the Chasa ensemble from Těšany, followed by an evening dance show Game of Life – Just Dance. The programme also includes a dance competition for traditional dancers and a May creative workshop for children and adults.

Sunday, May 17 is dedicated to the Wheelchair Users League and their benefit festival Kriplkára candec – from 2:00 PM onwards, The Tap Tap, Monika Byrtusová, Zkusmeto, Matěj Morávek & kapela, and Ukulele Troublemakers will perform. There are also refreshment stalls, craft vendors, and presentations by non-profit organizations.
