Cult of Holy Bodies – Exhibition at Bečov nad Teplou Castle

Státní hrad a zámek Bečov nad Teplou, Bečov nad Teplou

The "Cult of Holy Bodies" exhibition is held to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the discovery of the Reliquary of St. Maur and thematically continues this exposition – it explores the veneration of saints' remains in another historical period and focuses on the cult of catacomb saints. Eighteen unique exhibits are displayed in the basement beneath Pluhov Palace, which is open to the public for the first time. The artworks were created over 10,000 hours of work using thousands of polished glass stones, 158 kilometers of hand-wound gold threads, brocade, velvet, plaster, and metal foils. The displayed skeletal remains are patinated plaster replicas or anatomically precise plastic casts. The exhibition is accessible without a guide; for a deeper experience, visitors can scan a QR code and choose an audio guide or written guide. For children, an interactive game with tasks and riddles is available via QR code. On selected dates, guided tours with the exhibition author take place (capacity 20 people per group, every full hour, duration 45–50 minutes, admission 120 CZK). Opening hours in April: Tuesday–Friday 10:00–14:00, weekends 9:00–16:00. Note: castle passage reconstruction is underway in the grounds, which limits access for wheelchair users and strollers.
