"Caution, Curve!" at the Technical Museum Brno – Famous and Obscure Cars

Technické muzeum v Brně, Brno-Královo Pole

The permanent exhibition "Caution, Curve!" at the Technical Museum in Brno showcases twelve vehicles from the era of real socialism, including three prototypes that never entered serial production. The exhibition's name references a motoring programme of the same name that regularly aired on Czech Radio. Alongside well-known brands such as Škoda, Tatra, Žiguli, and Trabant, visitors can see lesser-known vehicles – for example, the Škoda 720 and the unique EMA (Elektrický městský automobil), the first Czechoslovak electric car, whose development began in 1968 at the Research Institute of Electric Rotating Machines in Brno in collaboration with VUT. It was manufactured in only two copies, and one is owned by the Brno museum. Some of the exhibited cars can be entered by visitors – for instance, a 1984 Žiguli that belonged to athlete Dana Zátopková. Other vehicles can be touched while wearing provided gloves. The exhibition is complemented by large-format period photographs by Vilém Heckel.
