Archeoskanzen Modrá, Velehrad
free entry
The third exhibition in the Elites of Great Moravia series is on display in the Jewel Chamber of Great Moravia within the Archeoskanzen Modrá near Velehrad. This year's theme is Christianity – the exhibition presents artefacts connected with the arrival and development of Christianity in Great Moravia in the 9th century. The exhibition contains a total of 243 exhibits: 238 are displayed in 12 showcases, five are represented by models of early medieval sacred buildings. The exposition is divided into two parts – the first is dedicated to the elites of Great Moravia (jewellery, weapons, clothing accessories), the second to the theme of Christianity. On display are, for example, necklaces with stylized crosses from Prušánky and Dolní Věstonice, unique gilded bronze plaques from Bojná in Slovakia depicting Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary and saints, an ivory pyxis from Černé Kľačany (possibly a gift from Constantine and Methodius to Great Moravia) and an iron cross from Bojná, which the public will see for the first time. The exhibition is organized by the Moravian Museum and the municipality of Modrá. The Jewel Chamber is a circular underground structure 20 metres in diameter with impenetrable air-conditioned showcases. Tours take place at 9:15, 10:00, 10:45, 11:30, 12:15, 13:00, 13:45, 14:30, 15:15 and 16:00; each tour lasts approximately 45 minutes. Pre-booked visitors have priority. The exhibition is open from 29 April to 29 November 2026.
