101 Ways to Go Extinct
Climb a snow-covered Mount Fuji in sneakers. Take a selfie with a bear. Clean a chimney with a hand grenade. Do yoga on a runway. A gala evening honouring those who most inventively ignored the survival instinct — a festival of absurdity and a scientific lecture rolled into one.
The Darwin Award is ironically given "to those who removed themselves from the human gene pool in a particularly stupid way." Yet the production poses a more serious question: can our species rid the world of stupidity without also destroying its own intelligence? Win voting rights for everyone — and hand the microphone to preachers of might-makes-right. Spend millions of years developing brain and free will — then surrender them to the market. Invent technology that ultimately replaces humanity. The transition of life from organic to inorganic form as natural selection?
The production is inspired by the Darwin Award phenomenon, the work of Charles Darwin, and how contemporary extremist movements have appropriated it. This is the second collaboration between Divadlo Husa na provázku and writer Petr Šesták — following last season's hit Someday the Kids Will Thank Us for It. In the 2025/26 season, Šesták makes his dramatic debut at the theatre; the production is directed by Anna Davidová.
