R.U.R. — Theatre Na Prádle, Prague
Description was written before the event

When Josef Čapek coined the word "robot" at his brother Karel's request, he had no idea it would become a symbol of the modern age. In his famous play R.U.R. – Rossum's Universal Robots – Karel Čapek posed a fundamental question: what happens when robots become aware of their servitude to mankind?

Čapek's robots are not cold machines from sci-fi films. They look like humans, behave like humans – yet they lack a soul. They are perfect workers, but is their obedience merely another form of slavery? To the island where robots are manufactured for the entire world comes a young activist, Helena Glory. Her effort to grant robots greater freedom disrupts relationships among scientists and the very order of the world they have created.

The production is presented by a young theatre ensemble composed of professional dancers, musicians, and actors who blend drama with movement and music. The original interpretation sets the story in the 1920s – accompanied by live jazz piano, singing, dance, and compositions by Jaroslav Ježek.

In the end, only one question remains: are robots human servants, or another stage of evolution? A question equally pressing then and now.
