Glove-Maker's Races — Žižkostel, Prague

Skin is a thin line separating the inside from the outside world - a sensory organ through which we perceive the world, and a precious material. The surface of the body can reflect what lies within. Our skin is oversensitive, as is society itself - exposed and frightened. What does it say about us, and what is its value? In the world we have created, it can no longer protect us, so we prefer to walk through it "in gloves".

Since time immemorial, we have killed animals to wear their skin on our own - to keep us warm, protect us, beautify us. We take on the responsibility of prioritizing the utility of the surface over preserving the life within. The tanning craft is gradually dying out - not because we no longer want to dress in flexible and resilient skin, but because machines have replaced humans. With death, we no longer want anything to do.

In Glove-Maker's Races, human and animal are in an embrace. Which of them is the endangered species, and what is actually dying here? For a moment, step into the skin of someone or something else.
