Valerie and Her Week of Wonders

A film based on the surrealist work by Vítězslav Nezval, inspired by the "black novel" tradition. It follows a week in the life of a thirteen-year-old girl who, suspended between reality and dream, experiences unsettling fantasies filled with mysterious perils, love, and danger that accompany her coming of age. This enigmatic, visually stylized film, like its literary source, draws on the schematic conventions and poetics of girls' romance and horror stories, which it combines with humour.
