Kino Ponrepo, Prague

The director follows the everyday life and culture of Argentine gauchos – ranchers who chose to live on the wild pampas. The three-part series combines travel documentary with impressions of Argentine folk culture, particularly music.

Argentine Journey I – Gaucho and Pampas – The first episode is a portrait of the gaucho, Argentina's national symbol, who rides across vast treeless steppes on horseback, with no trees to shield him from the sun.

Argentine Journey II – Zamba, Chacarera and Chamame – The second episode moves the crew from the pampas to the northern provinces, where it discovers three distinct styles of music and dance that emerged in the 19th century with roots in pre-colonial culture.

Argentine Journey III – Pacha Mama – Sacred Land – The final part takes place in the Calchaquies valleys on the Andes ridges, in Argentina's least developed region with traditions dating back before Inca rule. The trilogy concludes with a carnival dedicated to Pacha Mama – the Earth goddess.
