An Evening Slovak and No Other: Lost in Translation and PiNKBUS
A double bill of Slovak culture: a theatrical road trip / dance love trip by married dancers Lívia MM Balážová and Sebastián Méndez Marín, combined with a drag cabaret and Slovak folklore show by the PiNKBUS platform.
ARCHA+ responds not only to a questionable statement by Slovakia's culture minister, but above all to the destruction of Slovak culture being orchestrated by Slovakia's Ministry of Culture. As a form of support, ARCHA+ has chosen to regularly invite Slovak creative teams from the independent scene as part of the programme line An Evening Slovak and No Other.
Lost in translation: Found in Translation
A theatrical road trip / dance love trip capturing the intimate story of married dancers Lívia MM Balážová and Sebastián Méndez Marín. Lívia is from Slovakia, Sebastián from Costa Rica - their paths crossed in Belgium, where both worked in the international ensemble Ultima Vez and toured much of the world with it. They later moved to Costa Rica and eventually to Slovakia, where they now live together.
Through sharing personal experiences, they explore themes of migration, identity, and finding one's place in the world: what is it like to balance the need to "translate" oneself into another country, another language, and another way of thinking, while preserving the integrity of one's own world? How do you avoid losing yourself on this journey?
PiNKBUS Slovak and No Other
PiNKBUS greets the forests and mountains, greets them with all its heart - they belong to Slovak culture. WE ARE Slovak culture. Whether MADAM likes it or not. Let's change traditions together!
It is time for a "veselica" (celebration), because Slovak culture is only Slovak culture and no other. At a time when traditional values, rural life, and folklore are promoted on one side, and queer people and urban dwellers on the other, the nation seeks common ground and strives for understanding between both camps. And there is nothing better than music - from the Tatras to the Danube, from Eugen Suchoň's "The Maiden Tended the Peacocks" to Marika Gombitová.
The evening will also feature new faces from the Drag Workshop taking place the same day.
