Prodanka or Wedding Clearance Sale Above Smetana

"Prodanka or Wedding Clearance Sale Above Smetana" is a production by Divadlo Klauniky Brno - the twelfth integrative performance in which professional actors and actors with intellectual disabilities perform side by side. It builds on the ensemble's previous work, which has long focused on productions supported by classical music (DonDon Šajn - Mozart, Seděl vodník pod Erbenem - Dvořák, Vyprávění kmotry lišky - Janáček, Péťa a vlk - Prokofjev). This time, the musical foundation is Bedřich Smetana's opera The Bartered Bride.

The production brings the classical work to life through its own witty interpretation and builds on the musical motifs of Smetana's opera. It unfolds as "theatre within theatre" - in the setting of a theatrical rehearsal that reveals the behind-the-scenes creation of a performance, encounters the pitfalls of Sabina's libretto, and illustrates the principles of theatre therapy. A director character - a foreigner struggling with archaic Czech and Czech culture in general - complicates the entire situation.

From all these elements emerges a series of humorous and surprising moments accompanied by Smetana's music and familiar melodies in both classical and new arrangements. According to the organizers, audiences typically leave moved and laughing. The performance combines music, humor and imagination and carries a social message. It lasts approximately 75 minutes and is suitable for all ages.
