EXPOSITION OF NEW MUSIC
The 38th edition of the Exposition of New Music, titled Ars Spectrum, takes place October 3-8, 2026 in Brno. The festival offers a survey of spectral music - from its early forms to contemporary experiments with spectral analysis and resynthesis, which today enter algorithmic composition and improvisation guided by artificial intelligence.
The opening work is Fausto Romitelli's monumental Index of Metals, which extends spectral principles into audiovisual form and combines them with the aesthetics of psychedelic rock, noise, and electronic music. The next concert focuses on the work of Giacinto Scelsi, a precursor of spectralism, and other composers of several generations united by their interest in timbre and the inner structure of sound. The electroacoustic line is represented by a concert of Karlheinz Essl, a pioneer of algorithmic composition, and Franciszek Araszkiewicz, who works with data from brain activity measurements. A separate evening is devoted to Romanian spectralism and its transitions to improvisation. The programme also offers a concert of spectral piano music performed by Marek Keprt, including works by Tristan Murail, and culminates in an orchestral evening featuring iconic works of spectralism - Gérard Grisey's Partiels and Tristan Murail's Désintégrations.
