(Re)searching Havel
A Czech-Polish premiere production marking the 90th anniversary of Václav Havel's birth. Shortly after its Warsaw premiere at Komuna Warszawa, Divadlo 29 presents the Czech premiere, directed by Jana Svobodová. This is a staged podcast that opens a dialogue on manipulation, freedom, and responsibility from the perspective of a young generation - asking what Havel means to young Poles unburdened by the Czech Havel myth.
Authentic experiences of young Polish artists interweave with references to Havel's dramatic works. The staged podcast format combines live remixes of Havel's texts, live action, multimedia technology, and interactive visuals.
Following the performance, a discussion on Václav Havel and Czech-Polish cultural relations takes place. Participants include Andrzej Jagodziński, a Bohemist scholar, translator, former dissident and diplomat who has translated works by Josef Škvorecký and Milan Kundera into Polish alongside Havel's writings, and Petr Vlček, director of the Czech Centre in Warsaw.
