During a funeral dinner, amid the clink of glasses and the quiet accompaniment of a funeral band, fragments of the deceased's life begin to unfold instead of a peaceful farewell. He comes alive through the waiter's random movements, through subtle combinations of music, words, and objects - and with him, the guests' imagination awakens. Intoxicated by wine, they begin to immerse themselves in the past, until they themselves become characters in the story of Anna Karenina.
The Cabaret of Russian Realism builds its dramaturgy on living, visceral, authoritatively crafted music rooted in Russian traditions. Accordion, percussion, violin, cello, bass, and five voices conduct a metamorphosis of music and theatre, cabaret and intimate scenes with moving objects.
The rhythm builds to the final moment, when the spectator and actor - before the door of death - find themselves once again at the beginning, at the table with a glass of wine in hand.
