Sakobi

Divadlo Husa na provázku, Brno

SAKOBI is formed by Radek Zapadlo on saxophone, Vilém Spilka on double bass, and Martin Kleibl on drums.

Radek Zapadlo has been active on the Czech jazz scene for a quarter-century, performing alongside Matej Benek and Ondřej Rumla, in Cotatcha Orchestra, Vilém Spilka Quartet, and his own ensemble Four in Blue. Martin Kleibl, after eight years with the Brno Philharmonic, plays everything from classical to pop, is part of the OK Percussion duo with vibraphonist Martin Opršál, accompanies singer Petr Bendl, and is the driving force behind Vilém Spilka Quartet. For SAKOBI, Vilém Spilka exchanged his main instrument, the guitar, for the double bass, which he took up during the pandemic. The trio made its debut with the album Banzai! in 2024 on Bivak Records.

At this concert, SAKOBI will premiere their second album titled San, also released on Bivak Records. The album revolves around the number 3 – in Japanese, san: three band members, three generations of musicians, each represented by three performers, and 3×3 compositions, mostly original. The album's stylistic range spans from swing through Americana and world music to acoustic funk. The emerging generation is represented by vocalist Géraldine Schnyder, cimbalom player Michal Grombiřík, and guitarist Josef Hanulík; the legendary generation by pianist Miroslav Hanák, violinist Jan Dalecký, and guitarist Milan Kašuba.

All the mentioned musicians will perform at this concert – the complete album will be heard in the full ensemble arrangement.
