Cleaning Rules

An original theatrical production about domestic work, undeclared labor, care, and long-distance parenting, based on documentary interviews with women in the lowest-paid professions. What is it like to clean other people's homes, raise children from afar, and be visible only when you are missed? What does work so taken for granted that it fades into the background say about women's position, family, and society?

Rules of Cleaning opens up the topic of invisible labor, migration, and care, examining how unwritten rules shape our lives. On stage, the experiences of commuting women from Czechia and Ukraine meet - mothers across European borders, employed by exploitative agencies and intellectuals from the city. Their characters flow, change, and form a mosaic of voices that speak of hardship and unexpected strength.

The production is a co-production of Kolonie z.s., A studio Rubín, and Divadlo nacucky!. Social anthropologist Petra Ezzeddine, who has long focused on questions of migration and gender, served as expert consultant. It thus touches not only on everyday work but also on broader issues - from economic inequality to the impact of war on women's and families' lives. The result is an imaginative performance in which poetry, irony, and raw reality alternate, reminding us that society - like cleaning - has its rules, and that some layers of dust never fully disappear.

The production is suitable for those who have experience with work that remains invisible and want to find recognition in it; those who respect marginalized groups and people in precarious positions, or are part of them; those interested in sociology, anthropology, international relations, or gender studies; and those interested in current events in Ukraine.
