Lucie Vítková: Sea Section

Sea Section is a band moving between rock, progressive rock, avant-garde pop, and opera. Its founding member is Czech composer and musician Lucie Vítková (songwriter, vocals, piano), who lives partly in Brooklyn. There she met the rest of the band - guitarist Teerapat Parnmongkol, bassist Mae May, and drummer Nick Neuberg. Lucie is a prominent figure in both the Czech and New York experimental scenes, and Sea Section represents another direction in which her work is evolving.

The name Sea Section carries three meanings reflected in the songs: "sea" as the openness of the ocean, "c section" (caesarean section) as the urgency of an operation, and "section C" as a formal part of compositions. The band's first single, The Struggle to Play the Words, was released in September 2022 on Bandcamp and tells of layers of language - Czech, Thai, and English - of immigration and of a society in which everyone must express themselves in words to exist within it. The latest single Ten Den is in Czech and was created in collaboration with poet, singer-songwriter, and rapper Jakub Čermák (Cermaque).

Vítková will perform solo as part of her autumn tour.
