Sense and Sensibility

Elinor (Daisy Edgar-Jones) and Marianne (Esmé Creed-Miles) Dashwood are young, beautiful, and well-provided-for young women who lack only love to be happy, as is often the case at their age. Their prospects take a sharp turn for the worse when, after their father's death, their comfortable circumstances disappear. From the comfort of their spacious family estate, which passes by inheritance to their father's son from his previous marriage, they move with their mother (Caitríona Balfe) to much more modest conditions - a humble cottage in the countryside. More than the loss of their childhood home, Elinor regrets that the move forces her to leave behind the charismatic Edward Ferrars (George MacKay), a relative of the new owners. This state of mind troubles her greatly, especially since she prides herself on her rational approach to the world, love included. Her sister Marianne is made of entirely different stuff - with her heart on her sleeve, she is ready to surrender it to anyone who will take it. That fortunate person is the charming John Willoughby (Frank Dillane). Although her older, more sensible sister advises caution, Marianne rushes headlong into love.
