On the Sexual Life of Our People

Divadlo Husa na provázku, Brno

That wasn't for us! Today's young people don't even meet anymore. We spent time together – everyone knew who was doing what and with whom. And when the lads were fooling around in the hay, the whole village knew about it!

Karel Jaromír Erben collected fairy tales, Karel Jaroslav Obrátil collected stories of rural life – and there were plenty of them in Czech village history. Sex belongs to fundamental human drives since time immemorial, yet it remains a social taboo. It outrages artists performing naked in front of children, nudist beaches are considered a German perversion, and even Adam and Eve had their genitals covered with fig leaves.

People have experienced the sexual revolution, the rise of Tinder and OnlyFans, polygamy is no longer the biggest transgression. Communal singing of bawdy folk songs has been replaced by virtual dating apps with all manner of specializations. So why is someone's sexual orientation or preference still grounds for social exclusion? Why do people feel ashamed of their natural drives when humanity owes its very existence to them?

An opening of attitudes toward sexuality, where audiences together with actors will unveil a unique work of art – their own shame.
