The Marx Family Saga

Divadlo Husa na provázku, Brno

What if Marx was one of us?

He is writing a new Faust. He mixes misery with poverty. He searches for an apartment after being evicted from Dean Street with his entire family. He discusses with comrades, with his ancestor Abraham, and with animated images of builders and builders. He indulges in hydrotherapy. He is reflected in the windows of pornography shops, sweeps through Moscow nightclubs, winks from paintings. He sits with Jenny in Hampstead and watches the live broadcast of the collapse of the Soviet bloc. He switches to Dallas. Or to another endless series from a new world subjected to the laws of the market. He escapes. The founder of scientific socialism. Philosopher and poet. Prophet and charlatan. Loving father. Sad clown. Devil. Karl Marx. He influenced the present more fundamentally than any other intellectual of the modern age, it is said. He strived for justice and solidarity – and yet everyone knows him primarily as the inspiration for cruel dictatorships. What does society really know about him? And why should it still want to know something about him?
