Four Apocrypha

The B.A.N.D.A. Bystřice theatre ensemble presents four apocrypha by Karel Čapek: "The Decline of the Age", "Martha and Mary", "On Five Loaves" and "Holy Night".

An apocryph is a literary form that uses a familiar motif for allegorical or parodic comparison with the author's interpretation. Karel Čapek drew inspiration from the earliest human history and the Bible, writing a whole series of apocrypha - they appeared gradually in the 1920s and 1930s in Lidové noviny, and were first published in book form in 1945 under the title Book of Apocrypha. The ensemble has dramatized four of them and adapted them for the stage.
