Architecture Day: Prague - Housing in the Biedermeier Era

Lecture and guided tour of the permanent exhibition with historian Maria Firtova as part of Architecture Day.

The art of bourgeois empire style is inseparably linked to the culture of the middle class in the first half of the 19th century. In architecture it appeared more subtly, but it fundamentally shaped the culture of living - the need for intimacy, family comfort and respect for order led to the cultivation of home as a safe refuge.

The lecture will be followed by a guided tour of selected examples of period furniture and decorative arts in the permanent exhibition of the Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague.
