Dance Ensemble HRADIŠŤAN, CM Smetanka: "Králka za krála prosí"

"Hýlom, hýlom! Listen, upper, lower... Dear Queen, the King calls you... A falcon flew out..." These calls and songs still echo during Whitsunday celebrations in many villages in Moravia, Silesia, and Bohemia, where ancient king-rides, queen-processions, and traditional king-games come alive.

The programme asks what these rituals conceal - their roots reach back to pagan Whitsunday and carry within them the mystery of intertwining opposites and governing principles found in nature, in the human soul, and in community. There are countless variations of these rituals, and the programme also touches on secrets veiled by the mystery of the rose.
