Architecture Day: Boršov nad Vltavou - Grain Mill

A guided tour of the former industrial mill complex on the Vltava riverbank, led by architect Martin Šenberger, who designed its conversion. The site dates back to 1594 and is dominated by a five-storey brick silo from the late 19th century and a Baroque manor house from the 17th century.

Studio MAR.S preserved the industrial character of the original buildings, restored the mill race, and placed a Francis turbine - recovered from a buried canal - in a new public square. Two new brick buildings frame the complex with tree-lined streets; together with the historic structures, they form a whole of 83 residential units, a publicly accessible café, and a riverside park.

Completed in 2025, the conversion exemplifies the reuse approach - maximizing the use of original structures as the most sustainable way to manage architectural heritage. The project is nominated for the Czech Architecture Prize.
