Architecture Day: Kladno - Kladno Towers: The Ideal Housing of the 1950s
took place · 3 Oct 2026
Tower Clock Museum Kladno, Kladno
Description was written before the event
A complex of six tower blocks in Kladno was built between 1953 and 1957 according to the design of architect Josef Havlíček and represents one of the most significant examples of post-war residential architecture in Czechoslovakia. The thoughtfully planned apartment layouts, original details, and technically advanced features for the time make them an exceptional achievement in housing construction - and their silhouette remains one of the city's iconic landmarks.
The guided tour through the Kladno Towers Museum includes a period apartment from the 1950s, a civil defence shelter in the basement, and a rooftop terrace with views over Kladno and the surrounding area.
