Church and Monastery Tour – Beuron Art at Saint Gabriel

Gabriel Loci, Prague

Guided tour of the Church and former Monastery of St. Gabriel with Monica Bubna-Litic.

The commented tour of the interior of the Church and former Monastery of St. Gabriel will be led by Mgr. Monica Bubna-Litic, who has devoted over thirty years to Beuron art – among other things, through the legacy of her relative Gabriela. The interior of the monastery and especially the Church of St. Gabriel is considered the oldest and most remarkable example of Beuron art in the world.

The monastery belonged until 1918 to a female Benedictine order of the Beuron congregation. It was built by Beuron Benedictines from the Emauzy monastery, who came to Prague from Beuron in Germany. The exterior is built in Neo-Romanesque style; the built-up area of the monastery is almost 5,000 m². The building is a cultural monument and today, under the name Gabriel Loci, serves cultural and private events – exhibitions, summer cinema, theatrical performances, and gala dinners are held here; regular services have been held in the church since 1891 to the present day. In addition to the original furnishings, the church also preserves highly valued Beuron wall paintings.
