JMO: Jan Galega Brönnimann & Moussa Cissokho & Omri Hason
A trio featuring Moussa Cissokho (kora, vocals), Jan Galega Brönnimann (bass clarinet, soprano saxophone) and Omri Hason (oriental percussion) explores the tension between traditional and contemporary music from Africa and Europe. The shimmering sounds of the kora - an African harp with 24 strings - interweave with the warm tone of the bass clarinet and oriental percussion.
Moussa Cissokho comes from Senegal and grew up in a traditional griot family (griots are wandering singers and storytellers). He learned to play the kora from his father from an early age. Griots travel throughout the country and participate in traditional ceremonies. Today he lives in Austria and collaborates with musicians from Africa and Europe.
Swiss bass clarinetist Jan Galega Brönnimann is known in the Czech Republic primarily for his band Brink Man Ship; in the past he has collaborated with Nils Petter Molvaer, Sidsel Endresen, Pierre Favre, Eivind Aarset, Alym Keïta and Kenny Werner, among others. Israeli percussionist Omri Hason studied under Iranian drum master Djamchid Chemirani and is among the most respected players in his field.
