Description was written before the event
Prague owes much of its character to artists and craftsmen who came from Italy over the centuries - they were known as Vlachs. They brought Renaissance culture, shaped the city's Baroque face, and played a crucial role in building Prague's fortifications in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Vlach community was not just builders - it also included jewellers, chimney sweeps, and members of the highest court.
This walk explores the ancient history of Italians on Malá Strana and the families who put down deep roots here and continue to shape Prague today. It begins at the upper part of Malostranské náměstí - a place known for centuries as the Vlach Market.
Meeting point: at the Plague Column of the Holy Trinity on upper Malostranské náměstí.
