The Wayward Cloud

A young fugitive sneaks into an apartment in Taipei and hides in a room that serves as a secret refuge for a boy named Hung. Hung shares a bedroom with his rebellious older brother, while across the way lives their teenage sister, whose walls are covered with photographs of Japanese pop idols. Their mother plays mahjong with neighbors after work at home, and their father is often away in the evenings.

Tsai Ming-liang's breakthrough screenplay maneuvers this family into a situation where they spend a shared night with the fugitive.
