The Healing Effects of Self-Praise
Bio Central, Hradec Králové · 100 Kč · ≈ 4.1 €
One day, Nicolas Gobert appears at the door - a journalist from an obscure regional French newspaper who has travelled all the way from France. He wants to speak with an arrogant author about his latest novel, Denied Love, a book composed of intimate love letters addressed to a mysterious woman with the initials H. M. What begins as an ordinary interview gradually transforms into a psychological duel between two men with completely different views on life, relationships, sexuality, and the very essence of love - yet both are bound by an unspoken secret. One knows about it, the other has no idea.
Znorko does not respect his guest and behaves chaotically and confusedly. But the guest pursues his goal like a bulldog, and with each new question it becomes increasingly clear that he did not come for journalistic work. Facts emerge that shatter the carefully constructed identity of both men into fragments of half-truths, self-deceptions, and assumptions.
Mysteries are revealed slowly, but the game of truth turns cruel very quickly. Like two boxers in an imaginary ring, they exchange blows until they reach realizations that lead them to the very threshold of thoughts about being or non-being - with information they must live with from that moment on.
