Vinohrady x Žižkov - Friends or Rivals?
Husův sbor na Vinohradech, Prague
A guided walking tour through Vinohrady and Žižkov, starting from the Vinohrady Water Tower and passing through parks and residential streets to a square with a legendary pub where dissidents first spoke publicly. The route also takes in a cross on a royal ermine, though feet stay firmly on the ground.
Guide Jana Nováčková will explore the local Jewish community, the founders of scouting, and other notable figures connected to the district. The tour covers how Orionka got its star, why Plečnik worked for Prague for free, which church features a work by František Bílka, modern stained glass, who the Vinohrady Turk was, and where Masaryk attended church. Stories will also be told about life in apartment buildings versus on balconies, and the fates of buildings after restitution.
Meeting point is in front of the Vinohrady Water Tower. The walk lasts approximately 2 hours. Tickets can be purchased on site only if capacity has not been reached - contact the organizer in advance. The organizer reserves the right to cancel the tour if there is insufficient interest; purchased tickets will be refunded to the account.
