Jewish Town

A guided walk through Prague's Jewish Town, where medieval history still echoes in the synagogues and ancient cemetery.

Today's quarter of elegant apartment buildings was once a crowded ghetto with secret passages and narrow lanes packed with houses stacked on top of each other. Yet the spirit of the medieval city has not entirely vanished - it breathes in the synagogues, living guardians of a thousand-year history, and at the high wall of the old Jewish cemetery.

The walk will focus on what remains of the Jewish Town: the Pinkas, Klaus, Old-New, High, Maisel, and Spanish synagogues, as well as the Ceremonial Hall, Town Hall, and Jewish cemetery. Visitors will learn how to properly honor the dead when visiting Jewish cemeteries, who the mysterious Rabbi Löw, creator of the Golem, really was, what makes something kosher - and why the Town Hall clock runs backwards without being broken.

Meeting point: at the statue of Franz Kafka in front of the Spanish Synagogue. The walk lasts approximately 2 hours and ends at the Pinkas Synagogue. Led by Lenka Kliková. Admission: 200 CZK for visitors 65+ and students, 30 CZK for children under 15. Payment in cash to the guide on site; no advance booking required if capacity permits.
