Brno City Theatre (MdB) was founded in 1945 as Svobodné divadlo and has carried its current name since 1996. On Lidická Street it runs two permanent stages - the Drama Theatre (365 seats) and the Music Theatre (680 seats), which was built as the best-equipped theatre in Europe at the time. The programme spans classical drama, comedy and international musicals, many of which premiere in the Czech Republic here first. The company tours regularly across Europe and organises its own music-theatre festival, Dokořán.
