Dissolved and Drained

Police inspector Trachta is known for his unconventional investigative methods. Together with his young intern Hlaváček, he is about to solve the mystery of the missing factory owner Bierhanzl. However, his superior assigns the case to the newly promoted chief inspector Klečka. Right at the beginning of the investigation at Bierhanzl's villa, he is attacked. It turns out that on that fateful day, the factory owner returned home with his face bandaged and locked himself in the bathroom. There, as the police soon discover, he was dissolved and drained in the bathtub. An empty demijohn of sulfuric acid stands by the tub, and at its bottom lie the insoluble components of Bierhanzl's clothing arranged neatly.

This comedic detective story by Ladislav Smoljak and Zdeněk Svěrák is based on their earlier Cimrman theatre play "Murder in a Salon Compartment", but this time without the participation of the "genius". Ladislav Smoljak, who took on the direction, chose Jiří Zahajský and Marek Brodský for the main roles. They played with genuine enthusiasm in this parody of faded detective stories, full of unexpected twists, turns, and incredible resolutions.
