Rudolf Hrušínský (1920-1994) was one of the most celebrated Czech actors of the 20th century, with a filmography spanning over 200 titles. He became internationally known through films such as The Good Soldier Švejk, The Cremator and Capricious Summer, all considered classics of Czech cinema. Director Jiří Menzel called him the Czech Jean Gabin for his ability to convey depth with minimal outward expression. He received the title of National Artist of Czechoslovakia in 1988 and France's Legion of Honor; after the Velvet Revolution he served as a member of parliament for Civic Forum.
